october ucas deadline is slowly coming up...
let's get this application finished!
Hi friend,
I can’t believe it’s already September! This year has flown by, and with the UCAS application deadlines for Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, and Oxbridge approaching fast, we’ve got some tips to help you stay on track.
Practical Tips for Crafting the Perfect Personal Statement
Start with your ‘why’ - Write down 2-3 key moments that sparked your interest in the subject. Was it a class, a book, or a personal experience? Be specific about what drew you in, and use one of these moments to open your statement with a compelling, personal hook.
Demonstrate your engagement - Make a list of workshops, courses, or books you've completed that relate to your subject. Mention 1-2 specific examples and explain what you learned. Avoid vague statements like “I enjoyed the course” – instead, highlight how it shaped your thinking or gave you new insights.
Highlight your extracurricular involvement - Think about what you’ve done outside the classroom—competitions, research projects, or clubs. Pick 1-2 key activities and describe what skills or knowledge you gained. For example, if you took part in a debate, explain how it developed your critical thinking or communication skills.
Reflect on your experiences - Look at any work experience, volunteer roles, or internships. Write down 2-3 skills or insights you gained from these roles. Be honest about what you learned, whether it’s resilience, teamwork, or a deeper understanding of your subject. Then, tie these reflections back to why you’re ready for university.
Show your personality and goals - Share something personal about your hobbies or talents, and explain how they’ve contributed to your growth. Are you a musician? A coder? Let your personality shine through. Finally, wrap up by stating your future goals—be clear about how studying this subject fits into your long-term career plan.
